The Dalesman’s Yorkshire icons poll shows the magnificent breadth of what this county has to offer

October 29, 2013

Apart from it being impossible to choose a top 10, The Dalesman magazine’s ‘Greatest Icons of Yorkshire’ poll shows the magnificent breadth of what this county offers, whether it be in terms of sporting heroes, music, theatre, buildings, landscape, food and so on. The list is quite staggering to be honest and well-done to the magazine for pulling all these together. The thing that is striking is how, with such a range of ‘icons’, Yorkshire has to be worthy of further study and teaching. After all, all over the world universities offer Irish and Scottish Studies. Would it be too much for a Yorkshire university to offer a degree in Yorkshire Studies? And that’s aside from what could be taught and learned in Yorkshire schools.

Here’s the list as appears in The Dalesman but you will need to go onto their site to vote.
