YDM launches its ‘fly the flag for Yorkshire’ campaign

June 17, 2013
The Yorkshire Devolution Movement is urging councils across the county to fly the white rose flag of Yorkshire.   In the past few days all local authorities in Yorkshire have been written to urging them to fly the traditional white rose flag outside public buildings in their ownership.
YDM says in its letter:
“The Yorkshire Devolution Movement believes that Yorkshire has a unique and different cultural identity, in the same way that England or Britain is seen as a collective block of people. We believe that this clear cultural link between us unites our county and that flying our flag is only a small ask. As I am sure you are aware Yorkshire has its own officially recognised flag and I am writing to ask does your council fly a Yorkshire flag? If your council does not fly the White Rose flag, why is that?
“Even if you are unable to fly the Yorkshire flag all year round I would draw your attention to Yorkshire Day held every year on August 1st and ask that on this one particular day you join with many others across the county who will flag the Yorkshire flag.”
